The Ingredients
There are only 3-ingredients in this recipe:
- Heavy Cream or Whipping Cream – You can use either of these options and it will work great.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk – This is the entirety of the sweetness for this ice cream, so don’t make any substitutions here.
- Oreo Cookies – You can use oreo cookies or any other chocolate sandwich cookie.
How To Make Oreo Ice Cream
Full instructions and measurements can always be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post. This is a summary of the process to go along with the process photos.
- Step 1: Whip the cream.
- Step 2: Fold in sweetened condensed milk.
- Step 3: Churn in your ice cream maker until it reaches a soft serve consistency and then add oreo cookie pieces.
- Step 4: Smooth down into a loaf pan, add some more oreo cookie pieces to the top and freeze. And that’s it!
How To Make It Without An Ice Cream Machine
If you don’t have an ice cream machine that is NOT a problem at all for this recipe.
We tested this recipe both ways and there was about a very small difference in the end result. We’re talking single digit percentage difference. The churned ice cream was ever so slightly more ‘light and fluffy’ in texture. But the difference is SO small that you would barely notice it.
So if you DO have an ice cream machine, well you might as well use it. But if you don’t – that’s not a problem at all.
The No Churn Method:
- Step 1: Whip the cream.
- Step 2: Fold in the sweetened condensed milk.
- Step 3: Fold in the oreo cookie pieces.
- Step 4: Smooth down into a loaf pan, add more oreo cookie pieces to the top and freeze.
- It’s as easy as that.
Recipe Tips
Break up the oreo cookies into pieces: The cookie pieces need to be pieces, not crumbs, so it’s better to do this by hand rather than in a food processor. If the cookies are crumbled then it will tend to turn your whole ice cream a gray color, so you want to break the cookies into pieces, not crumbles.
Storing your ice cream: Store your ice cream in the freezer and enjoy within a couple of weeks. It doesn’t have any of the stabilizers that a store-bought ice cream may have, so if you store it in the freezer for longer than two weeks there is the possibility of ice crystals developing and messing with the texture. Of course it CAN be stored for longer than two weeks, but for the best taste and texture it is best enjoyed within two weeks.

Notes
- Break up the cookies with your hands so that they are in pieces and not crumbs.
- The difference between using an ice cream machine or not in this recipe is very small and subtle. If you have an ice cream machine you might as well use it, as it results in a ‘slightly’ more light and fluffy texture but the difference is probably in single digit percentage points, so if you don’t have an ice cream machine, this recipe is still ideal with a wonderful result.
- The prep time listed includes churning the ice cream. So if you’re using the no-churn method, this would be reduced to about 15 minutes in total.
