Ingredient Notes
- Fresh chives – these are ideal to make the flavors really pop. Dried chives will also work.
- Cayenne pepper – adds a touch of heat to this dip that is really delicious. However, if you don’t like things spicy at all, you can omit it.
- Mayonnaise – should be a creamy full fat mayonnaise.
- Milk – we just use a small amount of milk (2 tablespoons) to thin it out slightly. You can use any kind of milk, full fat or skim, it won’t make a difference.
- Greek yogurt – can be replaced with sour cream. It should ideally be full fat.
- Fresh garlic – is crushed and then soaked in fresh lemon juice for a few minutes. This takes the bite out of the raw garlic, while keeping all the flavor.
- White vinegar – distilled white vinegar rounds out the flavors beautifully.
How To Make Garlic Dip
Full instructions and measurements can always be found in the recipe card at the bottom of the post. This is a summary of the process to go along with the process photos.
- Place freshly squeezed lemon juice into a bowl or measuring jug and add crushed garlic. Let the garlic soak in the lemon juice for a few minutes.

- Mix together until well mixed.
- Decorate with fresh chopped chives and serve with tortilla chips or other chips or raw veggies for dipping.
Recipe Success Tips
Soak the raw garlic in the lemon juice. The first time we made this garlic dip we skipped this step and the dip was still good but the garlic was SO potent. It was just a little too strong. Soaking it in the lemon juice first takes the bite out of it, but keeps all that beautiful flavor.
Full fat ingredients. This recipe tastes best when you use full fat ingredients. So your mayonnaise, Greek yogurt/sour cream should ideally be full fat for the best results.
Storing. Keep your garlic dip stored in an airtight container in the fridge and enjoy within 3-4 days. If any separation occurs just stir it up again. It’s not freezer friendly.
